The Prachatice region cannot be passed by mainly by lovers of natural beauty, historical monuments, hiking and winter sports, nor by cyclists and water sportsmen. The countryside of the region is diverse: South Bohemian ponds in and around Netolice, fruit-growing areas near Lhenice, deep Boubín forests as well as thick forests in the border area with their timber settlements, the picturesque countryside of the Prachatice part of Šumava and the Šumava National Park, the River Vltava, which is interesting for water sportsmen from Lenora and Soumarský Bridge in the direction of Nová Pec, a number of pedestrian nature trails (one of the oldest is the Bear Path), a large number of cycle paths – all this is awaits visitors to this unique countryside.

Here you can find the highest mountain of the Czech part of Šumava – Plechý 1,378 m; one of the oldest towns in Bohemia - Netolice; the highest village in the Czech Republic – Kvilda; and the highest railway station in Bohemia – Kubova Huť.

Towns: Prachatice (an urban conservation area, unique facades of Renaissance houses, well-preserved parts of the town fortifications, a nature reserve, museums, galleries); Netolice (one of the oldest Czech towns, a conservation zone, Kratochvíle Castle, a museum); Vimperk (a town on the River Volyňka, a castle); Volary (well-preserved unique wooden Volary houses, a monument to the victims of the death march)

Museums and Galleries: Dub U Prachatic (a Manor house Gallery); Husinec (the birthplace and home of Master Jan Hus); Kvilda (an exhibition documenting the development of this Šumava village); Lenora (a glass museum, a municipal oven for baking bread); Netolice (the Ethnographic Museum of JUDr. Otakar Kudrna with one of the largest collections of postcards in the Czech Republic); Prachatice (the Prachatice Museum, the Museum and the Gallery of Bobbin Lace, the Cultural Centre of O.H.Hajek, the Lower Gate Gallery); Stachy (the Šumava Region Fire Brigade Museum); Vimperk (a Museum of National History and Geography, an exhibition of nature, glass and typography); Volary (the Volary Museum, “The Death March“ and “The Golden Path“ exhibitions); Zábrdí near Prachatice (Zábrdí Nativity scenes)

Castles, Manor houses, Fortresses: Drslavice (a Renaissance fortress); Hus (castle ruins above the meandring River Blanice); Kratochvíle (a Renaissance castle built by Vilém of Rožmberk as a hunting castle, today it houses the Museum of Animated Film, in summer months: Kratochvílení – the Continuo theatre company); Vimperk (a castle, one of the biggest in Southern Bohemia – accessible exteriors, inside is the Vimperk Museum)

Lookout Towers And Views: Boubín 1,326 metres above sea level; Klostermann´s Watch Tower (Javorník 1,065 metres above sea level); Libín 1,096 metres above sea level; Máří Hill 765 metres above sea level; Třístoličník 1,311 metres above sea level (in extraordinarily favourable weather it is possible to see the Alps); Hill St. Ján (Archaeological park Netolice)

Technical Monuments: Schwarzenberg Logging Canal (built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries by Josef Rosenauer, MSc for the purpose of the transport of wood from the Czech side of Šumava to the Danube and on to Vienna, length 52 km, the tunnel of the canal on Jelení Vrchy (Deer Hills), the Rosenauer Chapel)
